THE GREEN STICKER MONSTER MY TJ WRANGLER
HISTORY OF THE GREEN STICKER TJ
|
The Wrangler found its way to Australia in 1999 - somebody bought it and used it
slightly offroad.
We arrived in Australia in June 2001 and were looking for a vehicle to get us around
Melbourne. First I was looking for an old Ford Mustang, had one in the US, however
at the end I thought it might be better to have a newer vehicle. This should drive
better and also not break down that often - what a joke was that. Well I did not know
how "good" a Jeep would be.
I bought the Green TJ Wrangler Renegade in August 2001, no modifications on the
vehicle at all. Main focus was being the daily driver and maybe some gravel/dirt road
driving during vacations. I did not think much about 4WD at that time. Well I went on
some 4WD trips in 1993 and 1995 when I lived in Melbourne before, maybe that would
come back.
We never really used the vehicle as a 4WD until November 2002 on a trip to the
Snowy Mountains. We only attempted dirt roads around the Snowy and at the Coast.
The next big trip was to South Australia during Xmas 2002. The Flinders Ranges were
the first real 4WD tour we did. Two punctures were the result - that happens if you
drive with road pressures and brake to hard on sharp rocks. I learnt some stuff
during this trip.
Joining the MJOC - Melbourne Jeep Owners Club - in 2002 was a great help. Driver
Training and trips were a real help in learning some more 4WD techniques.
I now have all Driver Training courses done (Basic, Advanced, Trip Leader), have run
a few trips - everything from easy to extreme - and the vehicle has undergone some
major changes as described below.
The next big thing is the trip around Australia - this has been postponed a few times,
however one day it will become truth. The 4WD part of the journey will be the
Kimberley's, Top End and the Red Centre. Obviously we will find more 4WD tracks,
however those are the main 4WD locations.
More pictures and videos will be posted whenever a new trip was done.
