Continuation of the Mamukala, Ubirr and East Alligator Story...
The Main Art Gallery - this was also used as a shelter for
many thousands of years and obviously kitchen - the
main paintings show the food of those days
Top Left - Turtle showing the fat parts in yellow -
delicatesse, besides that a yellow painted men with
pipe and hands in pants - first connection to white men.
Top Right - Barramundi and turtle again and white men
on the right, again with hands in pants and boots -
Buffalo Hunters
Left - Beautiful Barramundi X-ray painting
Left Below - Thylacine - Tasmanian Tiger - believed to
be 4000 years old, before the Tasmanian Tiger got
extinct on the mainland
Right Below - Those paintings are on the roof of the
shelter about 10 m of the ground. Painted in the last 150
years, so how did they get there? They believe Mimi
spirits have painted them...
Bottom Left - the Art Gallery in a whole
On the right - showing increased bones or joints -
this happens if you disturb certain stone sin the
East Alligator River...
Those two fish paintings are from another site on the
circuit around the Ubirr Art sites.
Up towards the Lookout is the Namarrkan
Sister Gallery (showing on the right). Strange
story when they transformed to crocs to be
able to kill everything... Hmmm - anyway nice
Gallery (see panoramic below)
